This Is Me, This Is You. The Eva Felten Photography Collection

Description

The generous donation of the Eva Felten photo collection marks a milestone in the history of Museum Brandhorst. With 429 works by 140 artists – amounting, because of the numerous series, to a total of 1,095 photographs – it is a substantial increase in inventory, not only in terms of quantity. The consistently outstanding quality of the works also represents an enrichment in a medium that was and is of central importance for the art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Ever since her passion for collecting began in the late 1980s, Eva Felten has concentrated in particular on the depiction of people – a focus that she has consistently pursued in recent years and which makes the collection unique in this form. What unites the photographs is the sensitive view of the individual, of different life plans, political attitudes and inner conflicts, so that the overall perspective reveals a diverse panorama of human images. “This Is Me. This Is You” is dedicated to the photographic view of people and reflects questions of intimacy and desire as well as power relations and structural inequalities that are inscribed in the medium. The published catalog provides an in-depth insight into the collection, which includes a large number of renowned positions in the history of photography and contemporary art, from Diane Arbus, Robert Frank and Gordon Parks to Richard Avedon, Sher Sherrie Levine, Richard Prince, right up to Roni Horn, Arthur Jafa and Deana Lawson.
