Description

To close the exhibition “Future Bodies from a Recent Past—Sculpture, Technology, and the Body since the 1950s,” the animated film “field plots” (2023) by Munich-based artist Jonathan Penca (*1988) will be shown for the first time at Museum Brandhorst. The work can be seen in the museum’s media room from January 9 to 15, 2023, and engages with the themes and works of the exhibition. Together with co-curator Franziska Linhardt, the artist will speak about questions surrounding artistic tools and reference material, body boundaries and extensions, and unproductive gardening. This artist talk thus concludes the extensive exhibition at Museum Brandhorst with a reminder and an outlook.

Jonathan Penca’s artistic practice blurs the boundaries between performing and visual art in drawings, collages, and video works, as well as in expansive sculptural installations and performative stage productions. His work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at Haus der Kunst, Munich; Hollybush Gardens, London; the Goethe-Institut Paris; and Deborah Schamoni, Munich.
