Description

The delicate, colorful façade of Museum Brandhorst is not only an eye-catcher and a flagship of Munich’s museum landscape. It serves quite practical purposes, just as many other architectural features of the building—which opened in 2009—are designed to optimize energy consumption, for example. This building was designed with a well thought-out stylistic concept that makes targeted use of form and material in various functional areas—from the foyer to the lounge with its spectacular view of the Pinakothek museums. Last but not least, the location and neighborhood in the Kunstareal play a major role. This one-hour tour will also examine the extent to which the architectural concept responds to changes in the collection and to our general operations, and where strengths and weaknesses can be found.
