Description
What is the relationship between the practice of painting and social resistance to coercion and oppression? The current collection presentation offers an introduction to this far-reaching topic with works by artists as diverse as Thomas Eggerer, Jacqueline Humphries, Pope.L, Sigmar Polke, Kara Walker and Andy Warhol. In very different ways, the works negotiate various forms of group self-empowerment—whether with historical reference or as a general sign of protest.
The tour allows us to address exclusion and conflict based on works in the Brandhorst Collection and to exchange ideas about them. Beyond the motifs, we will also talk about artistic practices and take a closer look at the styles, techniques and media forms with which artists take up these themes.
Themed tours at Museum Brandhorst invite visitors to explore together particular aspects of our exhibitions or individual artistic practice. They provide an inspiring start to every Thursday evening and enable exchange and dialog among an interesting group of people.
