Description

A panorama of the most diverse interpretations and artistic realizations of the flower motif unfolds around the unique Rose Cycle (2008) by Cy Twombly. This includes a reunion with famous works from the Alte and Neue Pinakothek. “The Holy Family” (c. 1620/23) by Jan Brueghel the Elder is just as much a part of the show as Claude Monet’s world-famous “Water Lilies” (c. 1915). There is plenty of room for discovery, for example in the works of Amy Sillman or Jennifer Packer. The guided tour examines the poetic roots of Twombly’s rose paintings. An artistic and literary arc is spanned that evokes the fascination of the flower motif from Giuseppe Arcimboldo to Georgia O'Keeffe, between morbid transience and ardent Eros.
