Description

ANDY WARHOL, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, 1975

Andy Warhol was fascinated by deliberate depictions of himself and other people. He planned photographs taken of himself, and he liked to take photos of other New Yorkers who he found highly interesting. The reasons why he chose certain personalities vary, but it always had something to do with his own perception of himself and the culture in which he lived and worked. The question of how one shows oneself to others through images is therefore an important theme in his work. What does his fascination with personalities have to do with today's flow of images of self-portrayal?

In this meeting we approach his series of pictures "Ladies and Gentlemen" (1975) in which drag queens and trans* people from a nightclub in New York stood as models for him. How did Andy Warhol see them? And how did they portray themselves? Together we will take a closer look at the pictures in order to better understand the background to their creation. This time, the focus will be on the people depicted.

THE YOUTH CLUB

Once school is over, head to the museum: every Thursday from 5:30 p.m., the youth club offers you a space to engage critically and creatively with contemporary art and the museum. Take a look behind the scenes of the museum: meet staff, make contacts with other visitors, expand your network, exchange ideas, get to know the collection, get creative yourself and much more!

The following formats take place on alternate weeks: "The museum presents…", "Space for us" and the "Silver Factory" workshops, where you can try out artistic techniques for yourself! No museum experience or previous knowledge is necessary, just bring your curiosity.

If you have any questions, you can find out more about the youth club here.
