Description

"Everything is free now," Gillian Welch sings, and she does not mean it in a positive way. Her music is available for free everywhere, and she wonders how she is supposed to make a living from it. Text in art has not only become cheap since the rise of AI. Some galleries now rely entirely on AI-generated interpretive texts, presumably in the hope that nobody reads them anyway. The notion of "free labor" (Terranova) in digital contexts is perhaps nowhere more evident than in the freely available texts the internet provides. How do we deal with this? Flooding the zone with poetry, like Kevin Killian, who sometimes writes beautiful reviews in Amazon comments? Using Google Maps as a publishing platform? Or simply thinking for ourselves, which costs nothing?

For a few weeks, "Artistic Writing and Research" will move into the former bookshop at Museum Brandhorst. A space for gathering, without goods: everything is free.

At selected times, closed workshops will take place. At all other times, visitors are invited to explore the working and exhibition process of “Everything is Free.”
