Description

Alexandra Bircken’s art takes a sculptural approach to the question of what actually holds the human body together. Plaster modeling, body casts, mannequins, and pieces of clothing are transformed into human body fragments; torn open motorcycle airframes into the body-like flaying of skin. The body as an organ, as a cellular structure and as an extremely vulnerable boundary between inside and outside. Inspired by the artist’s multi-layered statements on surface, body, movement, shell and skin, we develop our very own DNA-MIX sculptures in the creative part of the workshop.
