Description
Artist A.L. Steiner presents URANIANS, a curated film and video program featuring multiple premieres, tributes and trailblazers celebrating, critiquing, and representing queer and female sexuality on screen. The program is a unique journey through bodies, times and spaces, focusing on the futuristic cyberpunk narratives and aesthetics of Shu Lea Cheang and Bruce La Bruce, among others. Steiner will also present the 69-minute sociosexual porn film Community Action Center, which the curator directed in collaboration with artist A. K. Burns.
The film program will only be able to show a small selection of cinematic works that represent queerness – a resistance that counters the demands for heteropatriarchal invisibility through its visibility on the screen.

URANIANS is the fourth major cooperation between FILMFEST MÜNCHEN and Museum Brandhorst. The films will be shown in the presence of A.L. Steiner as well as other artists and filmmakers during FILMFEST MÜNCHEN (June 23 to July 1, 2023). An extensive film discussion with A.L. Steiner and other guests will take place on June 30 in the foyer of Museum Brandhorst.
