Description

The works of artist Aleksandra Domanović, who was born in Serbia and lives in Berlin, concern the key paths and byways in the history of technology. She examines research areas such as robotics, genetic engineering, and space travel in terms of their historical and ideological conditions as well as their identity-forming function. Who or what decides which technologies prevail? What forms of exclusion and marginalization can be observed? What hopes and obsessions do we associate with technological developments? Her works of the early 2010s already demonstrated that Domanović pays special attention to the contributions of women to these fields of science— also a central theme in her group of works “The Future Was at Her Fingertips,” which is shown as part of “Future Bodies from a Recent Past.”

Aleksandra Domanović is an artist based in Berlin. Starting with an early interest in the internet, she has been exploring throughout her career the relations of technology, history and identity in sculptures, videos and digital artworks. The artist employs an autobiographical approach, often reflecting on the complex history of her native Yugoslavia.
