Description

How do we see ourselves and others? The portrait has always been a subject of interest to artists. The emergence of new reproduction techniques, such as new printing processes and photography, expanded the creative possibilities. Since smartphones have made a camera available to us almost anytime and anywhere, our relationship to the selfie or the image of others has changed dramatically. In the exhibition and in conversation with each other we will refine our perception of images of people.

In the practical part, we will then decelerate the process of taking pictures and arrive at new results away from the smooth surfaces and images on our smartphones and computers. Explore your own picture or the image of others with us by alternating between touching, drawing, photographing, printing and collaging.

The workshop will be run by artist and art educator Janna Jirkova. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and has since worked as a freelance artist at the interface of new media, installation and performance. Since 2018 she has also been working as an art educator at various museums in Munich.
