Description

Alexandra Bircken’s art is based on the principles of separating and connecting our inner and outer worlds. We examine the artist’s multi-layered statements on surface, body, movement, shell and skin and make mental associations with her artworks. Textile surfaces playfully step out of their function as garments and enter into new associative object connections. Everything that surrounds us, but also everyday objects such as packaging and textiles, can become a sculptural medium.

Quote: “My work feeds on observations of human life and our environment. It is about our vulnerabilities and our means of self-protection. And about the performance that modern society expects from us and that we demand of ourselves.” – Alexandra Bircken
