Description

What is fashion? What do we say about ourselves when we get dressed? And where does the desire for staging and self-expression come from? Katja Eichinger explores these and other fashion questions in her collection of essays "Mode und andere Neurosen" (Aufbau Verlag 2020). At the book premiere in April, the author will talk with designer Lutz Huelle about the wide field of tension between fashion and its manifestations – a topic that finds expression at Museum Brandhorst with artists such as Alexandra Bircken and Seth Price.

Katja Eichinger, who also works as a photographer and music producer, has been observing the phenomenon of fashion and its contemporary changes for many years; Lutz Huelle has been working as a designer since the 1990s. He has been internationally acclaimed in recent years with his collections for the LUTZ HUELLE label and presented his first collection in autumn 2019 as Creative Director of Delpozo.

The two are not only connected by biographical parallels: They were born in the late 1960s and early 1970s in the heart of West Germany and studied and lived in London in the late 1990s – the city of punk and post-punk, of pop culture and fashion business. With wit and a willingness to deconstruct, they operate at the interface of high fashion and subcultural phenomena, thus opening our eyes to the social and political aspects of fashion – and not least to the longing for self-worth and uniqueness in the digital age.
