Description
Behind the colorful facade, very different works of contemporary art can be discovered during the Lange Nacht. “From Andy Warhol to Kara Walker. Scenes from the Collection” juxtaposes classics from the museum with recent acquisitions that are now being presented for the first time. On the upper floor, night owls can experience “La vie en rose. Brueghel, Monet, Twombly.” In “Untitled (Roses),” six monumental paintings with fragments of poems, Cy Twombly addresses traditional themes of floral symbolism: the intensity of memory, death and mourning, sensuality and eroticism, redemption, and freedom and loneliness. In dialog with this series of works, the exhibition explores the ambiguity of flowers in painting from the 16th century to the immediate present.
