Description
Kate Newby is a keen-eyed observer and gleaner—traces, objects, and fragments that at first appear quotidian she folds into sculptures and interventions that nestle into the in-between spaces and particular corners of a place. The surrounding environment becomes part of the work: it transforms continuously over the course of its presentation.
In Munich, Newby’s site-responsive intervention “anything, anything”—first created for Klosterruine Berlin in 2024—takes on a new form. Around 1,000 altered bricks extend in two lines of over 80 meters along the swath of green next to Museum Brandhorst, running toward the so-called Türkentor and Walter De Maria's “Large Red Sphere”.
In conversation with Juliane Bischoff (curator, Portikus Frankfurt), Newby explores her practice, the potential of materials, and public space as a zone of interwoven places, times, and (hi)stories.
The talk takes place as part of the exhibition “Carrying” and Various Others.
