Description
The exhibition “In My Head” dedicates a space to each artistic position. In a beautiful parallel, spaces play a central role in the photographic practices of Wolfgang Tillmans, Deana Lawson, and LaToya Ruby Frazier. Wolfgang Tillmans’ early work, “Buchholz & Buchholz Installation 1993,” has made exhibition history and forms the starting point for the artist’s later photographic practice and its presentation. In her large-format photographs, Deana Lawson meticulously stages her subjects in carefully selected spaces—with numerous references to the lived experience and interconnectedness of the Black community. In her long-term project „The Notion of Family“ (2001–2014), LaToya Ruby Frazier explores her own family environment in relation to the urban space of her hometown of Braddock, Pennsylvania, which has been profoundly impacted by the consequences of industrial decline. The effects are particularly palpable for the Black population. This guided tour invites you to explore the various spaces and photographic approaches together.
