Description
The distorted bodies and anthropomorphic figures in Jana Euler’s paintings appear as symbols of an era of great contrasts. It is precisely these exaggerations and ruptures that unsettle us, reminding us of the coexistence of individual feelings and societal conditions. Kara Walker also creates ruptures in her work. She explicitly avoids painting, focusing instead on drawing, paper cutting, and watercolor. Her works, subtly told from the perspective of a Black woman, explore the racially charged cultural memory of the USA and question stereotypical representations and narratives.
