Description
Screening of “Community Action Center,” followed by a panel discussion with A.L. Steiner, Shu Lea Cheang, Bruce LaBruce and Jürgen Brüning
Museum Brandhorst and FILMFEST MÜNCHEN are cooperating again for the fourth time this year. With URANIANS, the New York artist A.L. Steiner presents a film and video program that she has curated. Featuring multiple premieres, tributes, and iconic contributions from various trailblazers, the collaboration is dedicated to showing, celebrating and critiquing queer and female read sexuality on screen.
The evening will open with a screening of “Community Action Center,” a 69-minutie film from 2010, made by A.L. Steiner in collaboration with artist A.K. Burns. “[It] is a […] sociosexual video […] which incorporates the erotics of a community where the personal is not only political, but sexual,” is how the artists themselves describe it.
This will be followed by a panel discussion with A.L. Steiner and international protagonists from the art and film scene, including artist and filmmaker Shu Lea Cheang, underground cult director Bruce LaBruce, and producer and founder of the Pornfilmfestival Berlin, Jürgen Brüning. In conversation with Filmfest programmer Julia Weigl, they will talk about representations of erotic encounters and queer sexuality in film, about community and collaboration, and about the multifaceted genre of porn.
The URANIANS films will be shown in the presence of A.L. Steiner and other artists and filmmakers during FILMFEST MÜNCHEN (June 23 to July 1, 2023) in various FILMFEST MÜNCHEN cinemas in the city. Further information and film titles in the series will follow shortly.
This event is being held in conjunction with the exhibition “Nicole Eisenman. What Happened” and in cooperation with FILMFEST MÜNCHEN and QFFM I Queer Film Festival München.
