Description

What is fashion? What do we say about ourselves when we dress? And where does the desire for self-fashioning and self-expression come from? Katja Eichinger explores these and other fashion questions in her collection of essays "Mode und andere Neurosen" ("Fashion and Other Neuroses", Aufbau Verlag 2020).

On the occasion of the publication of her book, Katja Eichinger, who also works as a photographer and music producer, and Patrizia Dander, chief curator at Museum Brandhorst, continue their conversations about art. They discuss the broad field of fashion and its manifestations along central works from the Brandhorst collection by Andy Warhol, Wolfgang Tillmans, Seth Price and Alexandra Bircken. This four-part "time travel" through art and fashion of postmodernism not only deals with the points of intersection between the two disciplines, but also takes up questions of self-dramatization and subculture as well as reflections on feminism and post-apocalyptic identities.

The series of talks begins on Thursday, 14 May 2020 at 7.30 pm with a live talk on Instagram (@museumbrandhorst) on Andy Warhol's "Camouflage" (1986).
