Description
Bianca Albrecht, an employee of the Doerner Institut, is responsible for the conservation care of the extensive collection of contemporary art at Museum Brandhorst.
Hanging a painting securely on the wall? Relatively simple. But what if a power connection is needed to display the artwork? A major work in the Brandhorst Collection is the 1985 neon installation “Mean Clown Welcome” by Bruce Nauman. What specifications had to be met to implement the artist’s idea technically? The conservator provides insights into the work’s history, creation, and technical requirements. It is interesting to examine how the exhibit differs from duplicates, and how the concept of the original is dealt with in this neon object.
