Description
Artworks attract us in many different ways. They agitate us or give us pause for thought, and sometimes their humor makes us laugh. Some artworks have such a strong effect that we can remember our encounter with them many years later. Each month, a different curator chooses a work from our online collection and, in a digital dialog, shares with us not only art historical facts and background knowledge, but also their personal experiences and thoughts.
Use the opportunity to ask questions and to chat with us about art – perhaps while enjoying a cup of tea or an after-work drink.
Alexandra Bircken (*1967) uses a large repertoire of materials. In her work “New Model Army” (2016) the artist wraps four mannequins in an ambivalent garment of nylon tights and worn motorbike clothing. A cultural-historical look at the materials used is revealing.

Tip:
On the Museum Brandhorst website you will find further ideas for engaging with Alexandra Bircken’s art:
“The female body is still a battlefield of political structures” – in the fourth and final session of the series, Katja Eichinger and Patrizia Dander talk about the group of works “New Model Army” by Alexandra Bircken.
