Description

When we think of pictures, we imagine them to be flat, while objects appear to us to be spatial. But is it true that images are always flat and objects three-dimensional? Can something we see also appear to us as a three-dimensional object? And what about pictures whose forms seem so convincing that they step into the space? The Scottish artist Lucy McKenzie (*1977) uses an illusionistic painting technique to simulate space or surfaces. In this way, she gives her works a spatial dimension and creates deceptively real details that invite the viewer to touch them. We want to take a closer look at the artist’s work in order to then create our own three-dimensional pictures.
