More about the artwork
Under the name Guyton\Walker, artists Wade Guyton and Kelley Walker have created an artistic œuvre that explores digital image production and circulation. The artists select specific motifs—such as fruit slices, chessboards, or stripe patterns—and scan them (unless they are already available in digital form), and then send the files to each other for further processing. The images thus change constantly. As intangible as digital images are, they require a material carrier to become visible. Therefore Guyton\Walker print their motifs on different objects and surfaces, such as the wax block displayed here. If the wicks embedded in it were to be lit again, this, too, would disappear. And all that would remain is a picture.
