More about the artwork

An overtly sexualized image of the female body meets the boredom of a woman absent-mindedly poking at a half-eaten plate of food. The painting was inspired by a situation in which Lucy McKenzie once found herself. During dinner at a private art foundation, large pornographic photos from the series "Made in Heaven" by Jeff Koons hung in the dining room. They seemed like mere décor: porn as a prop. The diner’s expression — "Oh my God, I'm so bored" — leaves it unclear whether the comic book-style image of the masturbating woman is to be read as an artwork hanging on the wall or as a kind of thought bubble revealing her private fantasies.
